Toronto-based Back Lane Studios is a local not-for-profit, named for its “back lane” studio entrance in Roncesvalles Village. We are located at 9 Neepawa Ave., one block south of Howard Park Ave., east of Roncesvalles.
Contact us at email@example.com or call 647-313-1654.
Our volunteer board and advisory group include community leaders and experts from the fields of education, filmmaking, journalism and business.
Formed in 2015, Back Lane’s mandate is to preserve and share neighbourhood stories through video.
We hold free documentary video-making workshops in local schools, with professional filmmakers and journalists as mentors. Through our programs, students can acquire skills in research, storytelling and film production and engage in their communities in new, creative ways. Some of these documentaries, called “CityShorts”, screen at the neighbourhood-run Revue Cinema.
To support our free initiatives in schools, we are offering documentary making workshops for students and adults in our Roncesvalles studio for a small fee.
We are also planning a new program to teach seniors and their families how to make short documentaries about their family histories.
