Two Part-time Jobs! Interested?

Thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs Program, Back Lane Studios, a neighbourhood arts hub in Roncesvalles Village, we are looking for two part-time employees: a video editor and a website designer and builder.

If you’re between the ages of 15 and 30, have great video editing or website building skills, and are interested in neighbourhood stories and local history, one of these part-time jobs could be for you. The video editing job will start towards the end or May or beginning of June; the website designer job will start mid-June. Both positions will run into September.

Our Current Project:

We are collecting seniors’ memories in the west part of Toronto, with the intention of posting them on a digital map. Called Mapping our Memories, the project will allow you to experience what your neighbourhoods were like in earlier decades and meet the people who lived there. The memories will be in written, video and audio formats. We will also be including archival photos and some historic information. The geographic focus:  Roncesvalles, Parkdale, High Park, the Junction, Swansea and Weston. We will also be inching into Etobicoke and to the east!

Video Editor/Videographer:  

Salary: $17.25 an hour for 15 hours a week for 18 weeks. Tasks: Complete short documentaries from existing interviews, and where needed find appropriate b-roll, sound and music; identify clips from Back Lane’s existing videos that can be linked to our memory maps, and in turn linked to the existing video; help record new interviews and assist with editing.

Website Designer/Builder:

Salary: $17.25 an hour for 15 hours a week for 16 weeks.

Work on rebuilding Back Lane Studios website. Help develop the mapping website with seniors’ stories linked to digital maps. The stories will be in video, audio and written formats. We will also be including relevant archival photos and historical information.

Back Lane Studios is located at 9 Neepawa Ave., a block south of Howard Park Ave. and east off Roncesvalles. Work can be done remotely until such time as Covid restrictions are removed.
